Karate BC is seeking dynamic, motivated and experienced individuals for the BC Team coaching positions who can facilitate our athletes high-performance preparation for the Karate Canada National Championships 2022, and effectively coach the athletes to successful results at this important national junior and senior team selection event.
Position:
BC Team Staff Coaches, Karate BC Team, High-Performance Program
5 to 6 positions are available, depending on team enrollment;

- Age Group Coach 14/15
- Age Group Coach 16/17
- Age Group Coach 18+
- Kata Coach (1 or 2 positions)
Term: May 2022 to August 2022
Duties
- Available to perform coaching role at Team Trainings and Nationals
- Support & coach BC Team athletes at KC Nationals following Team Director’s
directions - Oversee & coach BC Team athletes at the Team Selection grand prix event
- Attend full BC Team training days and some selected regional training sessions
- Review age group athlete and/or kata athlete YTP forms and provide written feedback (5hrs/season)
- Strong commitment to the program’s operation and development through appropriate and timely communication with the Team Director, coaches, athletes, parents and club coaches
Supervision:
Responsible to the Karate BC Board of Directors through the Team Director and High-Performance Committee Chair.
Required Qualifications:
- Karate BC member in good standing
- Experience coaching kata and/or kumite at the Karate Canada Nationals, the BC Winter Games, the BC Provincial Championships or equivalent experience outside of BC within the WKF competitive system
- Experience training high-performance karate athletes
- Achieved a minimum NCCP coaching status of Comp-Dev or Comp-Intro Certified or Trained, or can attain either status by Nationals
- For each Nationals, Karate Canada issues a specific ratio for the number of PSO Comp-Dev & Comp-Intro certified coaches required for a related the number of team coaches, therefore the selection process takes this factor into account. See Nationals 2022 info brochure, Appendix 6.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in written form
- Effective administration, organizational and communication skills
- Completed a BC Criminal Record Check, including the Vulnerable Persons Check, within the last 3 years, and this check does not expire before KC Nationals
- Can be submitted within this coach application period if not already on file with Karate BC
- Optional asset: Strength and Conditioning coaching certification & experience
Honorarium: $150/day, all travel expenses related to BC Team duties
