This past weekend (April 1st) the Steveston Karate Club held the 44th Steveston International Karate Invitation Tournament.
Door prizes were drawn after guest speeches, including an iPad. Roger Moore from Stockton, California, who also is the announcer at the US Open, did a great job as the MC for the 5th year at Steveston.
WKF Black Belt Kata and Kumite Div. Judge were WKF referee and other high rank judges.
In the Black Belt category in Women’s Kata, Hidemi Uchiage won and the Men’s Kata Div. was won by Toshi Uchiage. In Kumite, Women’s -60Kg was won by Claudia Laos-Loo of Nikkei Shito-Ryu Burnaby and Open Kumite was won by Mariah Blunt from Calgary. Men’s Black Belt -70 Kg was won by Rafael Silva from Calgary and Open weight was won by Will Wright.
The Steveston Karate Club was established through a sister city program between Richmond City and Wakayama City. Sensei Takeshi Uchiage came to Richmond as a goodwill ambassador in 1973 to start the Steveston Karate Club.
