This is the first in a series of emails to keep athletes, parents and coaches informed about the BC Team selection process. It sets out the first steps required for athletes who wish to try out for the 2024/25 BC Team.
This is a very exciting year to try out for the BC Team as the 2025 Karate Canada National Championships will be held at the Richmond Olympic Oval starting on April 3, 2025. This is a great opportunity for KBC members to compete with karate athletes from across the country.
However, the earlier date selected by Karate Canada for the Canadian Nationals means that it is not possible to use the 2025 BC Provincial Championships as a selection event for the BC Team. The shorter timeline forced Karate BC to consider other options for BC Team selection events.
After consultation with the KBC High Performance coaches and on the recommendation of the BC Team Head Coach, the decision was made to use the Canada Open as the first BC Team qualification event. The second BC Team qualification event will be the Selection Tournament on February 1st, 2025.
