On Monday April 8, 2024, a new Lieutenant Governor Order in Council (OIC) was filed which now requires all amateur combat sports to have permission from the BC Athletic Commissioner before holding any event. This new OIC will affect all combat PSOs hosting combat tournaments within the province.
For your reference, you can view the following documents.
This past Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the BC Athletic Commissioner, Kelly Gilday, communicated to our President, Donna Gardecki, that all Karate BC members planning karate events will be able to meet the requirements of the OIC by applying through Karate BC for sanctioning, in the same manner as they have done for the past many years. We feel this positive step reflects the close working relationship that Karate BC has with the Ministry.
As the Ministry is keen to work with Karate BC, we remind all members that any tournament hosted by our members, without exception, needs to be sanctioned. We will continue to keep the membership updated as new information comes available.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the undersigned.
Kindest Regards,
Larry Feagan
