If you are an athlete or a coach of athletes who is interested in competing on the Karate BC Team next year, you will want to check out the updates to the BC Team Handbook for the 2023/24 competition season.
Most significantly, in order to ensure that BC Team athletes have as much competition experience as possible before going to the Canadian Nationals, two significant changes have been made to the requirements for qualifying for the BC Team:
- The Canada Open has been added as a Grand Prix event, with points counting towards qualification for the BC Team. Qualification for the BC Team will now be based on points earned at three events: the Canada Open, the BC Provincials, and the BC Team Selection tournament. (Provisions have been included in the handbook for the eventuality that an athlete changes age or weight categories between the Canada Open and the BC Provincial Championships.)
- All athletes wishing to be on the BC Team, including those who have automatic invitations to the Canadian Nationals, must participate in the elite divisions at both the Canada Open and the BC Provincial Championships. (Exceptions can be made if the athlete is participating in a WKF sanctioned international event on the date of the competition.)
All athletes and coaches of athletes who are interested in competing on the Karate BC Team next year should read the BC Team Handbook. All changes have been highlighted in yellow.
