Karate BC is seeking a highly organized, motivated, and effective individual to fill the role of BC Team Manager.
Term: One-year contract, with an option for a one-year renewal as BC Team Manager subject to mutual agreement.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a full-time position but will require full-time intense commitment for short periods of time.
Duties:
- Participate as a member of the BC Team Coaching staff managing logistics for the BC Team schedule, training practices and Nationals preparation
- Manage all athlete documentation
- Manage all team communication
- Register BC team, coaches, and delegates for Karate Canada Nationals
- Arrange Nationals travel for coaches and staff, utilizing KBC’s travel agent
- Handle team administration for team kit (tracksuit, t-shirts, etc.)
- Travel with team to Nationals to support team
- Produce post-Nationals reports on BC Team for HPC and KBC
- Handle disciplinary duties
- Assist Head Coach (HC) and Assistant Head Coaches (AHCs) with various administration duties
- Attend all provincial team events if possible
- Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with the HC, AHCs, HPC, HPC Chair, Referee Committee (RC) Chair, Executive Director, KBC office and coaching staff
- Provide feedback when requested; encourage open, honest, and respectful internal communication with all appropriate parties
- Stay up-to-date and be familiar with and adhere to KBC Code of Conduct, BC Team Athlete Agreement, and other KBC policies, references, and sport-specific rules
- Work with HC to ensure that all individuals participating in, assisting, or accompanying the BC Team, including coaches, athletes, managers, and parents, respect and abide by the KBC Code of Conduct
Tasks involved with Officials attending Nationals:
- Communicate with the RC Chair, who will provide a list of Referees participating in the National Championships
- Provide accommodation requirements to tournament host hotel, based on information supplied by RC Chair, who determines rooming list (not BC Team Manager)
- Register Referees with Karate Canada, i.e. enter information into the official registration system as outlined by Karate Canada as necessary
Note: travel arrangements to Nationals are the responsibility of each individual Referee.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Experience organizing high performance sports teams or equivalent experience
- Excellent organizational and English communication (written and verbal) skills
- Excellent time-management skills
- Completed a Police Records check, including a Vulnerable Persons check, within the past three years, and maintains validity throughout the contract period (this can be submitted within the application period if not already on file with KBC; any cost will be reimbursed by KBC

- Willing and able to travel with the BC Team
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Desirable:
- Familiarity with processes related to organizing the BC Provincial Karate Team for competition at the Canadian National Karate Championships
- Familiarity with viaSport and CIS reporting requirements
- Coaching experience, preferably at an elite level
- NCCP Comp-Dev Certified
Compensation: Karate BC will pay a flat contractor fee: (to be determined upon qualifications), for the initial term of this contract, plus all approved travel expenses related to BC team duties.
