Karate BC is delighted to announce that Toshi Uchiage, our new Team Coach, and Ashtin Callaghan, our new Team Manager, will be guiding BC’s Karate Team as they prepare for, and compete at, the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.
Coach Toshi, an experienced coach with over 20 years experience teaching karate and coaching at National and Pan-American tournaments, has been appointed the Head Coach for Karate BC. A former multi-time Canadian national kata champion, Toshi is a past Pan American and World Karate Championship Bronze medalist.
Prior to becoming Karate BC’s Head Coach, and accepting the role of CWG Coach, Toshi was kata coach for the BC Team at the Canadian National Championships, where the BC Team had its best results ever.
Team Manager Ashtin is a certified NCCP Comp-Dev coach, an NCCP learning facilitator of Beginner-Intro & Comp-Intro courses, and the lead instructor at the Rodney Hobson Karate Academy in Kelowna, which includes a specific sports-karate training program for current and aspiring BC Team athletes.
Ashtin is an outstanding communicator and brings both coaching and team management experience to her role, in which she will not only manage the team but also assist in coaching.
“This is an inspired coaching and management team that will help our CWG team members achieve the best possible results in PEI,” says Andreas Kuntze, President of Karate BC. “I am looking forward to seeing our athletes on the podium in February.”
