Rodney Hobson Karate Academy is Kelowna’s only full-time Karate Dojo. At RHKA they consider themselves a family. Period. It’s as simple as that. They value equality and support for each other throughout life, inside and outside of the dojo. Within RHKA you will find caring, kind and motivated people who are focused on making positive life changes. Whether you are a Little Ninja student who is there to learn balance, structure and discipline or a parent who wants to gain self-esteem and lose weight while gaining practical skills, you will find what you are after. The Academy has been graced with the honor of working with hundreds of families currently, and thousands of families over the years and built lasting positive relationships with everyone. RHKA has a wide range of programming offering classes for children to adults, from 4yrs old to 74! It is also home to Kelowna’s first and only After School Karate Program which is a great alternative to after school care and sets up your child for future success through the martial art of Karate. RHKA also offer the feature of a Cyber Dojo. Within you will find all the documents their membership would require to advance through the ranks, study at home, as well as some cool videos from our YouTube Channel.

RHKA has been teaching Karate in Kelowna since 2002 and operates in two locations: the main Karate Academy in Rutland, as well as at the Kelowna Family YMCA. But why not see for yourself? Take the Virtual Tour of the 3200 sq foot, fully matted training facility.

Sensei Hobson has been involved in karate since 1985. He currently holds the rank of 6th Degree Black Belt under O’Sensei Masami Tsuruoka, and 1st Degree Black Belt under Master Hidetaka Nishiyama. He currently is the Tournament Director of the Tsurouka Karate Organization, Head Coach of Zone 2 Karate, and Chief Instructor of RHKA.

Senpai Jayden Whittemore has been training in Karate at RHKA for over 11 years. He has attained success on all levels of competition, recently becoming a 4x Gold Medalist at the Tsuruoka Karate National Championships (Kata, Kumite, Team Kata, Team Kumite).
