BC is pleased to announce that Toshi Uchiage will be leading Karate BC’s coaching team for the upcoming competition season.
A former multi-time Canadian national kata champion and a former Pan American and World Karate Championship Bronze medalist, Toshi is an experienced coach with over 20 years experience teaching karate and coaching at National and Pan-American tournaments. Most recently, Toshi was kata coach for the BC Team at the Canadian National Championships, where the BC Team had its best results ever.
About becoming the Head Coach for the Karate BC Team, Toshi says, “It is a great honor to be able to follow in the footsteps of the many great head coaches who came before me. I have been a part of the BC Team every season starting in 2000 as an athlete, and the last couple as a coach. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experience, and perspective with the athletes so that they become consistent in achieving their peak performance. The coaching staff and Karate BC staff will work as a team to ensure that the athletes are supported and are able to grow both in and out of the ring.”
“We are excited to have Toshi Uchiage on board as the BC Team Head Coach,” says Andreas Kuntze, President of Karate BC. “We believe that, with his experience of high-performance karate both as a coach and an athlete, his athlete-first mentality and his strong communication skills, Toshi will be able to create a respectful culture and bring together a united team of coaches, athletes and support personnel to continue to make the BC Team stronger than ever.”
