Karate Canada is pleased to be offering a National Referee Certification Course on May 13 & 14, 2023, in North Vancouver, BC.
All Canadian National referees or those who wish to upgrade from Provincial Referee to National license should attend.
The Process of Certification to the National level:
- Full Provincial Referee License (prerequisite)
- Attend a Regional Clinic
- Theory Exam
- Practical Evaluation (kata and kumite)
Those who do not qualify, or do not wish to take the test, may audit the course.

Fees:
- National Clinic (audit): $100.00
- National Exam: $50.00 (must register for both the course and the exam)
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates will perform one or two Kata to the satisfaction of the Referee
- Pre-Requisites:
- National Judge B: Provincial Referee, Minimum Age 19 & Shodan
- National Judge A: National Judge B, Minimum Age 21 & Shodan
- National Referee B: National Judge A, Minimum Age 21 & Nidan
- National Referee A: National Referee B, Minimum Age 21 & Nidan
Seminar Participant Instructions:
- Bring a Karate gi to perform your kata. Casual attire when not in your gi.
- Online officiating exams MUST be completed successfully (passing grade required)
- Kumite Examinations – Passing Grade:
- Judge B – 80%
- Judge A – 85%
- Referee B – 90%
- Referee A – 90%
- Kata Examinations – Passing Grade: 90%
- Bring an internet-capable device to complete the theory exam
- Read the Kata, Kumite, and Para-Karate rules to prepare for discussion:
