COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The NCCP Competition Introduction course is intended for dojo instructors and coaches who want to enhance their repertoire of karate skills and possibly enter their athletes into competition. This weekend workshop is a good introduction to the competitive environment of the sport. Coaches will learn in-depth planning, supporting and improving athlete competition skills, and brief overview of the rules governing karate competitive settings. It is required to have completed the Instructor Beginner course prior to registering for the Competition Introduction course.
Those who complete this course will be considered Competition-Introduction In-Training and may go on to become Certified by completing tasks 1-6 of the Coach Portfolio. Contact Karate BC to learn more about the instructor and coach pathways in BC (coachdev@karatebc.org).

Who Should Take This Course?
- Dojo Instructors who are interested in developing their ability to analyse movement and to provide constructive feedback to their athletes
- Coaches who wish to coach at the Provincial Championships
- Coaches who wish to coach at the BC Winter Games
- Provincial Coaches at National Championships
COURSE CONTENTS:
- Analyze Performance (6 hours)
- Consider factors that influence technical & tactical performance
- Observing and defining key performance factors
- Applying the principles of motion to detect and correct key performance factors
- Participants will be working with competition technique
- Planning a Practice (5 hours)
- Understand the importance of logistics in the development or a practice plan
- Establish appropriate structure for practices
- Identify appropriate activities for each part of the practice
- Design an emergency action plan
- Develop a karate skill
- Matching sport requirements and athlete development
- Develop karate skill and physical ability at the same time
- Support the Competitive Experience (4 hours)
- Performance profiling
- Mental preparation
- Nutrition

Pre-Requisites:
- 16 yrs old and brown belt for course
- 18 yrs old and black belt for certification
- Have completed the Instructor Beginner course
