Sport Governing Body for Karate in British Columbia

Membership Benefits

Members in good standing with Karate BC are entitled to a complete range of benefits and services including, but not limited to:

  1. Insurance coverage: $5,000,000 Third Party Liability for Members & Instructors; Sport Accident & Dental Accident Coverage
  2. Association Newsletter
  3. High School Sport Credits Program for athletes, officials & coaches: credits available each year for grades 10, 11 and 12
  4. Bursaries and Scholarships
    1. Vince Redfern Bursary awarded annually: $500 each to a male & female qualifying applicant
    2. Judy Bickel Memorial Scholarship awarded annually: $750
  5. Athlete Assistance Funding for athletes on the Karate BC Provincial Team who meet criteria

  7. KidSport funding through Sport BC
  8. BC Ferries Sport Experience Program: BC Ferries and viaSport assistance with ferry travel costs for athletes, coaches, and team managers, when traveling to competitions
  9. Technical seminars conducted by high performance coaches
  10. National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Technical Courses
  11. Courses on sport safety in conjunction with the Sport Medicine Council
  12. Organizes competitions for both Recreational and High Performance athletes:
    • Provincial Championships
    • Open Tournament
    • BC Winter Games
  13. Provides access to higher level competition through Team BC:
    • National Championships – International Championships
    • High Performance Seminars & Fitness Testing
  14. Ensures safe competitions through tournament sanctioning process
  15. Administers Officials program:
    • Offers officiating courses conducted by highly skilled instructors
    • Ensures competent officials for tournaments
    • Provides opportunity to excel at officiating at National and International levels
  16. Promotes exposure to media including coverage of events and individuals through social media
  17. Province-wide referral service for member clubs, including internet club listing
  18. BC Amateur Sport Fund: tax deductible receipt program
