As a new initiative to ensure that coaches across Canada are continually up to date, Coaches Association of Canada has unveiled their Professional Development Program. Professional Development points will also be required to maintain instruction and coaching certification. Below is a description of what is needed and how they are achieved.
Competition Introduction – 20 points over 5 years
Instructor Beginner – 10 points over 5 years
In general:
- NCCP training or evaluation events are worth 5 points;
- Non-NCCP events are worth 1 point for each hour they last, up to a maximum of 3 points;
- “Active coaching” will give you 1 point per year;
- Through “Self-directed learning” you can earn a maximum of 3 points per five-year PD cycle.
