Last week (August 4-6th) the Trail and Rossland Traditional Karate Clubs hosted their Internment Karate Camp in New Denver, BC. Organizer, Scott Hutcheson, was extremely pleased with how the camp went, “We had a great time at the Camp in New Denver. We had attendees from the Kootenays and the Okanagan come to the serene Slocan Valley. I think it’s likely the most beautiful place in all the Province, and a great place for a family to come for a karate vacation”, commented Hutcheson. “The peaceful and tranquil setting of the crystal clear glacier-fed lake, and the beautifully warm weather were well received”, he continued.
Locals to the area came to watch and the Mayor of New Denver, Ann Bunka, expressed how exited the Village was for the camp to be there. She went on to say that as custodians of the Internment Legacy, there was no better use for their Gardens than to hold a karate camp which could not show more respect for the history of the internment and no better group than Karate BC dojo’s to honor and respect the memorials and raise awareness of our Canadian History which is even more relevant today with Religion replacing Race as a way to segregate our Society.
Hutcheson concluded that they are already looking forward to next year’s event and hosting even more karate-ka and their families in this beautiful region.
