On Tuesday, April 28 Rossland Chito-Ryu Karate Dojo celebrated FREE COMIC BOOK DAY. Free Comic Book Day started in 2002 when the major publishers and distributors of comics, an original North American art form created in the early days of the twentieth century, collaborated to increase readership in comic books.
The comics are fun to read, featuring a wide range of diverse story lines and genres that capture the imagination of readers young or old. Specialty comic stores everywhere give away free comics on the first Saturday in May which are specifically published for the occasion. Major events are launched through this free giveaway like this year’s Marvel Comics event where heroes will battle each other for survival in Secret Wars.
Comics are the best form of medium for encouraging literacy and reading not only to boys but girls as well. Everyone learned how to read through picture and word association and comic books are exactly that. Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders and the best Karate-ka are not always the strongest, but the smartest.
Rossland Chito-Ryu Karate Dojo trains Monday/Wednesday in Beaver Valley and Tuesday/Thursday in Rossland.
Call Beaver Valley Rec 250-367-9319 or Rossland Rec 205-362-2327 to join.
