Karate BC sends its condolences to the family of Sensei Toru Arakawa, who passed away at the age of 82 last weekend. The funeral will proceed in Tokyo on the morning of Monday 29 June.
Mr. Arakawa was one of the greatest teachers of Wado karate worldwide, having started training with the founder of Wado Ryu Karate, Hironori Ohtsuka when he entered Nippon University in 1950. He has been President of JKF Wado Kai, Technical Director of JKF Wado Kai and Vice president of JKF. He is directly responsible for the establishment of Canada JKF Wado Kai. He has visited Canada many times and Wado students across the country have had the privilege of studying with this singular genius. His passing is a great loss to karate community worldwide.
