Karate BC would like to thank our members, including clubs, parents, and coaches, and instructors for their thoughtful feedback regarding the equipment requirements for the upcoming Canada Open. Following the initial posting, we received valuable input highlighting concerns around affordability, accessibility, and safety for non-elite participants. Many emphasized the financial challenges faced by families, the limited availability of suitable gear for younger athletes, and the importance of maintaining inclusivity in non-elite categories to ensure a positive experience for all participants.
In response, the Karate BC Board of Directors carefully reviewed these concerns and collaborated to propose a solution aimed at addressing these priorities while ensuring safety for all athletes. This proposal was presented to Karate Canada, the sanctioning body for the Canada Open, for their consideration.
After their review, Karate Canada confirmed their decision to maintain the current equipment mandate, posted in the bulletin, for both elite and non-elite divisions. This decision aligns with their ongoing commitment to promoting safety and consistency across karate competitions nationwide.
We appreciate Karate Canada’s dedication to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. Karate BC remains committed to listening to our members and collaborating with Karate Canada to support the growth and development of karate at all levels.
Thank you again for your feedback, engagement, and collaboration. Together, we continue to strengthen and grow our karate community.
